Korea oh Korea

  1. Last year in Aug, I and another 2 colleagues went to 3 different city; Cheongju, Cheonan and  of coz Seoul Korea on  7 days work assignment and I found Korea is an amazing country in many ways. The climate, their people, their food, their mindset, their dreams, their system, their lifestyle, etc... not to forget their industries (engineering and automotive in particular), they really mean business and Korean are so serious to be a new icon to watch for.

  2. The journey took three of us 7hrs from Changi to Incheon International Airport; Seoul and a few hundred meter before we land I can see this huge airport located on a man-made Yeongjong-Yongyu Island (another engineering achievement - they merged two adjacent island into one! )
  3. Back then, H1N1 outbreak was at its boom, and you can imagine how stringent the airport control could be, nevertheless everything was done professionally and well organized and its seems that there were not much "Hu-Ha", the Korean seems relaxed and looks like nothing happen.
  4. From my observation, what attract me are;
  • Cleanliness (Housekeeping) - The city (Seoul in particulars) are so clean you can't find a single cigarette buts lying on the streets...the unique part was, there are NO dustbin or rubbish-bin around!
  • Smooth public transport services (Public Transport Management) - They have automate announcement facilities at every city bus stop, to announce what are the next bus and the sub sequence, and ETA (estimation time arrival) to that bus stop.. I've checked the timing and its accurately on-time
  • Highway System (Safety Conscious & Discipline)- Korean are left-hand drive so the fast lane are on the far left and those lane are only meant for taxis and buses ! You can hardly see other cars try to CILOK to this lane.. and I've been told by the Korean friend the accident rate involving public transport are very much less.
  • Toll - Public transport are FREE to use the Highway. I did ask on the toll rate/km  for private cars but those information seems got slip from my database (hardcopy and mindcopy  !) da tua kot.. I'll try to get it later.
  • Buy Korean (Like the malaysian "Buy Malaysian") - Unlike Malaysian, Korean are proud of their own stuff even though most of them agreed and acknowledge some of the foreign product are much better but they still support their product.. "who else" told them
  • Automobile - I would say more than 90% vehicles on the road monopolize by Korean brand..Hyundai, Kia, and Daewo, can't hardly find even Japanese car.
  • Sefood every where - Korean loved seafood and vegetables, the seafood are half cooked steam style and some are still movin' ... see video
  •  KIMCHI All Korean are so obsess or ubiquitous to this side dish.. makan Steak pun dgn Kimchi !

  • Colour - Korean like soft tone colour e.g light green, light blue, grey, I noticed that on their corporate uniform, houses, apartment, cars (most of them silver, white & black), painted equipment,  EXCEPT on their company logo or signboard, my friend even told me that their company sign board "macam logo/packing snack keropok udang je."
  • Korean written script / alphabet (Hangul) - Korea official script created in 15th centuries and been widely used on everywhere, even to STARBUCK signage (Imagine we have JAWI all over the place not only on nama jalan signage...

  • Electronic goods...? - If you think electrical / electronic / hand-phone goods, like Samsung and LG are cheaper there, you are totally wrong its EXPENSIVE , simply because those are Korea made while what we got here are Korean brand with China made.

    • Environment friendly Mentality -  No doubt that they have it at every level, government, people and facilities. In the middle of Seoul the river are so clean, I saw children and their family swimming there (see picture) Kalau lah sg. gombak / kelang or sg. Segget at JB boleh macam tu kan best.
Things that Korean Like about Malaysia
  1. Education Cost - Cheaper while we can still provide "Free Text Book Scheme"
  2. Healthcare Cost - Affordable without lacking any technology and specialist
  3. Property Cost - In big city Korea, someone who can afford to buy house with land is alleady a big tycoon.
  4. Political Stability - No tense within region
